Where
A video call on Friday afternoon. You posted a small job on a freelance site four days ago, and Ivo asked for a call. His screen is shared: a whiteboard with a clean list of steps on it, and a timer running in the corner. A glass of tea sits next to his keyboard.
Who
You are Sam, and you build Echonote on your own — it turns long voice notes into structured notes. Ivo is a freelance developer in Tallinn, Estonia, who replied to your post. You have never worked together, and he has never asked what Echonote does.
At stake
He wants the whole six-week project. You only have one small piece of work you can put money on right now, and you need to know whether he is right for it before you commit. Your next release window is five weeks away, so a wasted week costs you the window.
Mood
He is warm, laughs easily, and answers fast. He says no problem twice in the first minute, and he has already brought up the bigger job twice. When he talks about the six weeks, he looks away from the camera and back at his own whiteboard.
